Behaviour

About

Our research in behaviour focuses on understanding the causes and consequences of (often individual-level) variation in behaviours, particularly in responses to changes in the environment or social dynamics.

Some of the questions currently addressed fall under the themes of:

  • individual personality,
  • song variation and animal cultures,
  • foraging behaviour (e.g. nest provisioning),
  • reproductive behaviour (e.g. life history decisions, EPP)
  • divorce,
  • sociality and microbial exchange.

We use a range of techniques including:

  • behavioural observations (both visual and acoustic),
  • experimental manipulations (both in the wild and in captivity),
  • social network analyses,
  • bio-loggers.
